Truth in jest

from Eliot Gershenson’s New Year Letter to Houston Interfaith supporters:
A THOUGHT TO PONDER
I was struck by a comic strip in the Sunday, December 28th, Houston Chronicle.
I think that reading the comics keeps us young. Humor does that.
Every once in a while humor pierces the walls that separate us. Take a look at it below.
It would be facile and simple-minded to suggest that everyone should just get along.
The hurts are often too much.
The pain and suffering are too deep. And there are people who do evil things.
But we should hope for a time when what makes us distinctive
does not cause us to be fearful of one another.
We need to work for that day.
Remember, sometimes we just need to open our eyes to our own failings and give someone else a break.
By doing so, we just might be giving ourselves a break too.
