Jewish Answers is a website devoted to providing answers to questions within Judaism- ‘the faith of questions’.
Example:
Question: What is the most holy thing or object in Judaism, and how is reverence to it expressed by the believer? For example, if it is the Torah, do believers stand when it is opened, and is it not touched by the bare hand, etc?
Answer: The holiest articles in Judaism were to be found in the Temple that stood in Jerusalem. Since it was destroyed, I would agree that the holiest article in our faith is the Torah scroll. We are permitted to sit while the Torah is at rest — either in the Ark, lying on the Platform from where it is read, or if someone who is seated is holding it. At other times, we stand when the Torah is present. The Torah is not permitted to touch the floor or the ground. We attempt, as much as possible, not to touch the parchment of the Torah with our bare hands.
